Sailing offers more than just a break from daily pressures—it’s a masterclass in risk management. Before we ever leave the shore, we assess weather conditions, tides, equipment reliability, and health factors. Preparation, foresight, and contingency planning are what make the journey safe and successful. (and so very enjoyable!!)

Recently, I had the chance to sail with my colleague, Craig Phillips and the parallels to our work in substations and switchrooms became strikingly clear. In both environments, identifying hazards and actively managing risk is critical to safety, performance, and reliability.
